Hello, my name is Marlon Jackson. I am an English Education Major here at the University of Northern Iowa.
I am from Northwest Iowa and my transition to college was a tough one. I had a rocky senior year in my personal life and I really did not know how college was going to be. Yet one eventful Sunday morning I signed up for something called TRIO or Student Support Services. That day I met someone who would help me become a successful individual here on campus. I met Nick Sullivan, the director of the program, and my advisor. Ever since that Sunday morning he has been helping me strive for my dreams. I have gone on to join various clubs, become a member of Lambda Theta Phi, and now, I am working as the Peer Coach for Student Support Services.
Student Support Services aims to help its students to become the best version of themselves. There is no major problem that this office does not try to help with. Even when they do not know it, they still work hard for me, the students, and the university. I can not thank the TRIO staff enough for how far I have come. I never dreamed of being where I am in life, but somehow TRIO helped me realize what I can do and keeps pushing me to strive for something bigger, brighter and better.
Let TRIO help you figure stuff out while you are here at UNI. I would encourage those who are eligible to apply and take advantage of this amazing office, and see how far it will help you go. For I know that my success here at UNI has a lot to do with the hard work put in by Nick and his staff. Thank you to the TRIO staff for doing what they do and helping to shape students' lives here at UNI.
